Look Up! It's All About Perspective in Puerto Colombia

Eugénie on a rooftop terrace overlooking Puerto Colombia and the Atlantic Ocean

On top the restaurant, Puerto Colombia below and the Atlantic Ocean.

It’s all about perspective.

And asking someone.

I am in Puerto Colombia!

I like my little hotel!

All the way at the top, there is a terraza - where you can see ALL in panoramic view, the entire area- from the mountains to the ocean. It is breathtaking and freeing.

I slept well.

But, my back was sore… From all the sitting in a car (1 hour), in planes ( 6 hours) and a taxi drive (1.5 hours). I have lower back issues. Yoga has radically helped me with this! So, at 6:30 am, I went to the beach and did a bit of yoga stretching, hands and feet softening into the silky soft sand, spiraling dark grey and black  (There are volcanoes not too far away).

Right now, I am nicely shaded at my breakfast terraza. I can see the Atlantic through the blue steel roofs of the Muelle Center.

The Muelle is a pier that was built in 1888, four miles into the ocean. It was the first location of arrival for merchandise and newcomers. Then it moved to Baranquilla, which is now the main city for culture, commerce and fun.

I like Puerto Colombia! Just outside of Baranquilla, it has a cozy feeling.

Yesterday, after walking around the Muelle, I was looking for a restaurant where I could enjoy a good meal. I was starving.

Walking along the main street in front of my tiny hotel, I saw lots of fast food places. After a whole day of eating sandwiches and fast food, I wanted to eat a salad!

I finally just asked a nice lady walking by with her daughter.

I told her what I was looking for and she looked above with a sign of her head.

Sure enough.

And at the very top of a four story building, there was a restaurant. Penthouse view.

I walked up four sets of flights, I was winded when I got up there, but what a reward - I could see the whole ocean.

I enjoyed a massive salad with a full view of the sun setting on the Atlantic Ocean of Puerto Colombia. Wow.

I love the bustle.

In my home in Cambridge, it is quiet. I stay indoors and watch “Defiance” on Amazon Prime.

People hanging out in the streets. Motos weaving in and out, young men showing off.

People sitting in little cafes, or ice cream shops.

People walking, meandering, slowly.

All right here.

Friendly homeless dogs feeling right at home.

Spanish speaking all around me.

Whistling.

Honking.

Music everywhere.

Oye!

I feel present.

I miss my daughters. I wish I could share this with them.

It is so good to have my Canadian head opened up to a new world. Get out of my routine, even if I like it.

Get out of my house!

I sometimes feel like I am buried there, despite my yoga, my dancing and my regular dates with friends.

So this week, I invite you to look up. See differently.

And ask someone who may have a different way of seeing things.

Because that is the message for today.

Sometimes, you just need someone to point you in the direction you cannot see, offer you a fresh perspective.

So you can experience something new.

So you can have a delicious supper on top of the world.

In joy, always.
