I admit it!!
I went to see the Barbie movie with Camille.
While it did not teach me anything new, I liked how they explored the endless and limiting ROLES and EXPECTATIONS of women (and men*).
A Mom and her daughter end up in Barbie Land.
The Mom has this five minute rant about all the roles and expectations that exist for women. It is an impressive performance. The actress, America Ferrera, had her job cut out for her. The LIST IS LONG.
Sooo...
What is a GOOD woman?
A woman who behaves "conducts herself in accordance with the accepted norms of society." (Oxford Dictionary).
Hum... Who decides? Who wrote the rules?
What "shoulds" are popping up in your mind?
What is the underlying message?
I should cook healthier meals. (If I don't, I am an awful mother).
I should lose ten pounds. (I am not desirable the way I am.)
I should be more patient. (I have no control over my life).
I should be able to raise my children, look sexy, be awesome at my career and make it all look easy. (I am not good enough).
Who do these beliefs serve?
If they are inspiring you, allowing you to raise your energy, build your confidence and propel you forward, keep them!
If not, they are called limiting beliefs.
These expectations and limiting beliefs bog women down.
They make them feel like they are not good enough.
They are also unrealistic.
They suck the joy out of life, are exhausting. Trying to comply with ALL of them will lead to overwhelm, stress, and potentially burnout.
Thankfully, developing awareness around these beliefs, noticing them, and detaching from their power is something that can be learned and practiced.
These transparent shackles can be broken.
WHAT IS A GOOD WOMAN?
YOU DECIDE!
I can help.
You can free yourself from limiting beliefs, so you can write your own empowering ones, reclaim your joy, experience more balance, GUILT-FREE, with self-compassion all the while maintaining (if not increasing!) the quality of your work.
