Today’s yoga class was 108 sun salutations to celebrate the 1st day of spring!!
That is 108 planks, forward folds, etc.
Did I do them all?
No
Did I succeed?
Yes
What?
My wrist started to hurt and I listened.
My former self would have not been able to do that.
My former self was highly competitive and pushed her body to the breaking point.
Torn knee playing rugby.
Broken wrist mountain biking.
Back injury doing a billion burpees.
I was wearing my RED leggings and my WHITE top so I was EXTRA visible… as I flowed completely out of sync with the rest of the class!! (Gasp!)
So I did about 40, slowly, very carefully.
And then, when my wrist told me that was no longer possible, I did my own thing.
I started “talking” to my wrist.
Yes, that is weird.
Especially weird because I was very KIND to my wrist.
“I hear you wrist.
I got you.
I won’t push.
If you need me to, I will stop entirely and just lie down on this mat.
Easy does it.”
Did I do 108 sun-salutations?
No.
I practiced self-compassion.
And that is my accomplishment!
Proceed at your own pace, with love and compassion for yourself! You are doing great.
